By this point, it’s a shock if the Panorama girls’ basketball team doesn’t come away with a victory.
The Panthers rose to the No. 6 spot in the latest IGSHAU Class 2A rankings last week after yet another auto pilot-like performance, their fourth consecutive victory of the young 2018-19 winter season.
PHS knocked off Madrid in a dominant fashion Dec. 7, a 62-39 thrashing for their 23rd consecutive regular season victory.
The Panthers last lost in the regular season back on Nov. 25, 2017 in Cedar Rapids to three-time defending 1A state champion, Springville.
Senior Bailey Beckman led Panorama in scoring yet again in Madrid, dumping in 19 points on eight-of-15 shooting, swiping seven steals while hauling in five rebounds. Fellow senior Morgan Johnk secured a team-high 11 rebounds while scoring nine points.
Beckman leads the West Central Activities Conference in scoring at 19.3 points per game, which is 17th in Class 2A among players with at least four games played.
Johnk is fourth in the conference in rebounding at 7.3 rpg while Beckman is averaging six boards per contest. Panorama is averaging 53 points per game while winning their last three games by an average margin of 27.6 points.
The Panthers were on the road at Van Meter Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. PHS stays on the road Friday as they take on intra-country rival AC/GC. The Chargers are off to a program-best 4-1 start.
