Clay Central Everly Schools superintendent and elementary principal Dennis McClain has been offered the shared superintendent position at the Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center Community School Districts.

McClain was chosen based on feedback received through an interview process and for his qualifications, according to a news release from the school district.

McClain has accepted the position and his contract will be approved at a special board meeting pending a formal background check.

“My wife and I were very impressed with our experience at AC/GC during the interview,” McClain said in the news release. “The strong academic and extracurricular programs that are available to our children at AC/GC made our decision to accept this position very easy. We are excited for our family to join the AC/GC family.”

McClain has served in his current position at Clay Center Everly for seven years, where he helped balance the district’s nutrition fund. He also helped expand the districts 1:1 technology from 9-12 to K-12, according to the release.

He has also previously worked at Stanton and for the Clarinda Academy.

“The Adair-Casey Board of Education is pleased to welcome Dennis McClain and his family to our district. Mr. McClain’s financial acumen, rural knowledge and administrative experience will complement the legacy left by Mr. Smith,” said Randy Carney, Adair-Casey school board president. “We look forward to getting to know Dennis and his family.”

McClain’s family includes his wife, Donna, and their three children, Benjamin, EmmaKay and Jarrett. Benjamin is a freshman at Iowa State University, EmmaKay is a sophomore and Jarrett is in the 7th grade.

McClain is also currently working on his doctorate degree in educational leadership through the University of Northern Iowa.

“Mr. McClain’s thoughtful leadership and desire to foster a culture of continuous learning and development for administrators, teachers, and other staff members will provide opportunity for all to grow as professionals giving our kids even more opportunity to learn and grow skills within the walls of our district buildings,” said Wes Policky, Guthrie Center school board president. “On behalf of the Guthrie Center Board of Education, we welcome Dennis and the entire McClain family to our district and our communities.”

McClain will begin his duties on July 1, 2019.
