Sufficient money has been obtained for the fourth Guthrie County Veterans Memorial Wall.

Names of veterans who have connections to Guthrie County will be engraved on four large black granite walls and erected on the north end of the Veterans Memorial on the Guthrie County Courthouse lawn in Guthrie Center.

If everything goes as planned, the Memorial Walls will be erected before Memorial Day 2020.

The committee appreciates all the assistance they have received with this project. They thank the families for providing the names for the walls. More than 700 men and women will be listed on the initial display.

Additional names for the walls are welcome. This is an ongoing project that will continue for many years to come. Each name costs $60.

Raising the money was a challenge. Lyle McCool won the most recent fundraiser -- a lawn mower.

The committee appreciated the assistance from people around the county. A special and grateful thank you is given to LuannWaldo and The News Gazette for the publicity, advice, support and pep talks to get the job done.

Eight years is a long time for a project like this but the committee prevailed. They are proud of the monuments and look forward to the erection of the new walls. It was a challenge to complete but the committee’s work pales in comparison to the sacrifices made by our veterans.
