Edward Kim Lubeck, 67, son of Kenneth & Doris Elaine (Whyte) Lubeck, was born September 15, 1951 in Sac City, Iowa. He passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018 in Panora, Iowa.
Kim graduated from Sac City High School in 1969. He went to Ellsworth Community College for petroleum marketing management. Following his graduation from Ellsworth in 1971, Kim completed a four-year degree in business at Buena Vista University. His interest in the service station business has strong roots, with his father owning four stations. Kim worked for his father during high school and was interested in going into the family business after college. Following the sudden death of his father, Kim’s uncle took over full ownership of the stations. Once Kim graduated, he contacted the Petroleum Marketers Association, to see if there was a place in Iowa where he could work and buy into. They recommended Panora. Lawrence Royer was the owner at the time and Kim started working for him in May of 1973 to the next February of 1974 and then he bought him out.
It was not long until Kim and Maureen would meet. They were married in November of 1974 and they made their home in Panora. To this union two children were born, Courtney and Phillip. For the next 42 years, Kim owned and operated the service station before retiring. He would keep the towing business but decided to start enjoying retired life.
Kim was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, the Panora Lions Club, the Panora Masonic Lodge, Panora Chamber of Commerce, PRIDE, the Petroleum Marketers Association, Friends of Panorama, and was President of the South Panorama District.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen; daughter, Courtney (Chris) Rogne of Cresco, IA; son, Phillip (Becky) Lubeck of New Zealand; three grandchildren, Brelynne, Knute, & Leif Rogne; brothers, Terry Lubeck of Fort Dodge & David Lubeck of Tomball, TX; and sister, Jan Popp of Newell, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Lucian Russell.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Panora. Burial was at Resurrection Cemetery, rural Guthrie Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Lutheran Services (Foster Families), the Make A Wish Foundation, the Friends of Panorama, or the Panora Lions Club.
