The struggling West CentralValley defense fell victim to yet another foe in week eight.

The Clarinda Cardinals dismantled the Wildcats to the tune of 41-6, dropping the visiting Wildcats to 1-7 overall and 0-4 in 1A, District 8 play.

WCV has lost four straight, having been outscored by an average of 25 points per game during the slump. The Clarinda defense forced five WCV fumbles Oct. 12, including three recoveries by freshman Logan Green.

The Cardinals ran for 222 yards and four touchdowns, led by quarterback Michael Shull (4 TDs, 138 total yards) and brother William Shull (92 rush yards, 1 TD).

West Central Valley receiver Arnburg hauled in his 28th career reception touchdown in the loss, tying him for 16th all-time across all classes.

Next in line is Urbandale great and Iowa State University legend Allen Lazard, who hauled in 29 touchdowns for the Jayhawks from 2011 to 2013. Five guys are tied at 30 touchdowns, which would sneak the senior into the all-time top 10.

Arnburg is second in 1A this fall in receiving yards

(896) and is tied for second in touchdowns with three others at 11. The senior finished last week’s game with three catches for 79 yards, bumping his per catch average up to 18.7 yards,

Linebacker Cole Sackett is second in the state in tackles with 92.5 after adding nine more to his total in week eight. In his last 17 games, the senior has racked up an incredible 221 tackles, an average of 13 per game.

WCV quarterback Carson Wadle remains in the upper-echelon of dual-threat athletes, as his 1,671 total yards rank him ninth in 1A while his 17 total touchdowns are 15th in the state. He tallied 109 total yards and a score while running back Brice Sechrist ran for 52 yards on six carries last week.

West CentralValley hosts Panorama (4-4, 1-3) in the regular season finale Oct. 19 in Stuart.

The Panthers recently snapped a three game losing-streak with a 42-8 victory over AC/GC Oct. 12. They are led by dual-threat quarterback Luke South, who has tallied 1,330 total yards and 15 touchdowns. He’s also caught four balls for 117 yards and a score.

Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Wildcat Athletic Complex.
