Barbara Jo was born on August 6, 1936, in Guthrie Center, Iowa. She passed away on February 24, 2019, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was the oldest daughter of Theodore and Emma Harriett (Breitenstein) Davis.
She grew up on Prairie Street with her sister and friend Harriett Ann.
She liked playing basketball and became a star basketball player in High School.
After high school, she married and had 3 children JoAnn, Jerry, and Judy Sebert. She raised them on Prairie Street while working at Iowa Electric and following all of their sports. She would take bus trips to Omaha to watch the horse races. She taught Sunday School at the Methodist church and was active in various church groups for many years. She enjoyed lunches and everyday phone calls with her sister Harriett Ann Sloss.
In 1978, Barbara married Boyd Shroyer and they had a son, Charles. They raised him on the farm near Adair.
She went to work for the REC. They moved back to the house on Prairie Street and after retiring from REC, she worked part-time at True Value. She was active in clubs with her ladies from Adair. Barbara bowled for many years on several different teams. (She loved going out to dinner with the bowling girls.) She loved her trips to Spirit Lake and floating in the lake on a tube and boat rides.
She loved her trips to Colorado to visit her daughters, rides through the mountains, betting on the horses, and dropping a quarter in the slots! She loved rides and ice cream sundaes with her Nieces. Barbara loved a good laugh and loved her family deeply. She was the most generous, kind, loving soul and she will be deeply missed by those that knew her.
