The AC/GC wrestling team picked up a pair of victories over the weekend en route to their fourth place finish at the Kuemper dual tournament.

The Chargers knocked off Johnston JV, 54-34 as well as Audubon, 45-24. They suffered defeats in three other matches, a narrow losses to Storm Lake (43-33), Kuemper (36-35), and Missouri Valley (48-31). Missouri Valley captured the title while Storm Lake and Kuemper rounded out the top three. Johnston and Audubon were fourth and fifth respectively.

Sophomore Seth Danker (113) pounds secured four victories Saturday, his only loss coming to Class 2A’s third-ranked wrestler, Benjamin Schmitz of Kuemper Catholic.

AC/GC’s Blaine Beeler (120 pounds) also secured four victories, including a pair of pin falls. As a team, the Chargers tallied 19 pins, third most in the six team tournament while Gabe Rowley compiled four pins of his own during his 4-1 run at 145 pounds, tied for the second most in the field.

Gavin Cornelison (170 pounds) secured the second most total match points, scoring 36 behind only Audubon’s Trace McCuen (46). Cornelison scored four victories, including a pair of pin falls.

The Chargers are next in action Friday in Corning for a tournament including SWV, Atlantic, Central Decatur and Creston.
